Hello Everyone! I've been quite busy travelling, freelancing, and continuing the job-search (full-time or freelance projects) the past two months, but I launched something I designed for The Blobbettes recently and finally put it up on my site! |
|
The Blob Blog Logo and Custom Template Design (found in the "play" section under "the blob blog")
"The Blob Blog" is a blog that chronicles the struggles and triumps of two "blobbettes" as they work to get in shape and live healthier. Even though they carefully guard their privacy and anonymity, The Blobbettes still desired an attractive blogsite that better conveyed their fun, energetic, and feminine side than the available template designs were able to speak to. In order to achieve this, I first created a logo that summed up their identity and mission in a succinct mark, and then designed and built a custom template for them that further fleshed out their brand identity. |

The logo designed for "The Blob Blog" conveys The Blobbettes' desire to transform their shape from a round, bulbous figure to a more elegant, svelte one through typography and placement with the fatter, "BLOB" moving behind and the thinner and prettier "BLOG" coming forward. The shared "B" at the end of "BLOB" and beginning of "BLOG" reveals the more ideal frame hidden within the current bulbous form, and further reflects the idea of progression and transformation. The colors chosen are an obvious nod to their femininity while avoiding the sugary and youthful "Barbie" hue. |

While the logo's colors clearly reflected the feminine nature of their identities and struggles, it was important to balance this with other hues in the site design so as not to overwhelm the viewer with girlishness. The vibrancy of their individual personalities was maintained through the addition of a saturated orange, while giving the reader a place of rest in the main area of text with a slightly grey background. Rounded corners and softer type was chosen to further reflect their identities, while a concave shaped-notch alluded to a narrowing waistline with every entry they posted documenting their exercise adventures. The dichotomy between The Blobbettes' earthly present desires and their lofty heavenly ideals was illustrated in the play between positive negative found in the cloud forms and the bite marks in the header. |

The response from The Blobbettes and their guest bloggers have been overwhelmingly positive, with the feedback from one of The Blobbettes posted on the site in the piece's description.
Coming soon, I will hopefully have more work to show you that I did with Plus for The Electric Company, and I'm beginning to think of adding a few more things to the site in general, such as a blog of my own for smaller updates on design favs and sketchbook pages! As always, feedback is welcome and appreciated! Especially if there are things you'd like to see changed on the site or added to it as I begin to consider a revamp! xoxo, |
