A small break in my schedule means a quick breather and much-delayed design update!
I’ve received some more copies of the work I’ve done for Forrester, and while I’ve decided to wait until I can give a full year’s retrospective (coming this fall), they’ve kindly given me the go-ahead to post a testimonial of my work for them thusfar:
Despite the fast pace and complexity of our projects, Dorothea meets every challenge with professionalism and an extraordinary commitment to a delivering excellent results. Her reliability and flexibility, on top of her design talent, make her a valued contributor to Forrester’s Events marketing program.

I also have a wedding invitation suite that I’ve designed for happy couple Mark & Mbong to share:

M&M’s wedding invitation suite
When I spoke with Mbong about her vision for their wedding suite, she described to me not only the story of M + M (or M&M) coming together, but also the union of western and African culture, of traditional and contemporary styles reflected in the invitations. She also wanted them to match the season of the wedding with “deep fall colors that are on the spicy side…a bit exotic.” Spicy? Exotic?? I’m sold.
Over the next several weeks we came together to discuss leaf shapes, solid areas versus textures, color palettes, and the possibility of African and Cameroonian motifs. Ultimately she opted for large areas of flat, rich color, intersecting and framing the cards on a heavy, textured, natural card stock. Below are some of my initial sketches and a more detailed view of each card:

It was a huge pleasure to lend my design skills in celebrating this awesome couple–a dream project! Luckily, the feedback so far has been really positive as well =). Congratulations, you two!
Nice job! Erm… don’t be surprised if I come asking you for help when I plan my wedding! Would you be interested in helping? <=)
Haha thanks! Definitely! Have your people talk to my people and we’ll work something out when the Big Day comes =)
Holy-moly, Dorothea. Your organic art always knocks my socks off. This is what my leaves look like: () … and here’s a branch: –+-+
ASCII art–noice! Remember this from high school days? @}-,-`- ROSE! hehe
Thanks for the encouragement, Jason!
I really like the subtle colors where the leaves overlap. It doesn’t feel crowded or oversimplified. Simple but bold!
Thanks, grace! Definitely challenging to strike that balance! I’m glad you like it =)
