Hi, welcome to the site of Dorothea Chang. Here you'll find my graphic design portfolio as well as some other projects I've done. Just click on the links above to get started.

Finally able to show you what I've been up to since September! The Forrester Events forum campaign materials are up: corporate theme images, postcards, and brochures!
Also, I am going to be at AIGA/Noble Desktop's evening seminar this Monday in New York City. If you're going, see you there!
08.20.2009
I'm starting some major changes to this site, beginning with making the play section much more playful with the inclusion of experiments, sketches, older pieces, and design wonders I come across on the day-to-day in addition to the side projects I already post there. The updates to that will come much more frequently as I hope to post something at least once a week if not (ideally) more often.
I've also moved The Blob Blog, ShearQuality.com, and my Degree Project to the "work" section and reorganized all the pieces so that it reflects my current physical portfolio. Stay tuned as I continue to tweak, change, and integrate!

My continued pursuit of learning design across the interwebs has lead me to create a logo and customized template for "The Blob Blog." While I have maintained the anonymity and privacy of these "blobbettes," I have posted the designs in my playsection under "the blob blog." I had a ton of fun making it and the client responses have been super positive! Yay for all!

Quick update! I just noticed that my interview with Chronicle Books, where I spent half a year as a publishing fellow in 2007, is finally up! Hooray!!
03.29.2009
I've been doing a lot of freelance work the past couple of months, helping out with pre-press preparations for more Electric Company material with Plus (formerly Plus et Plus) as well as some simple web-design stuff for TANE organics and my animator friend, Ashley. Hopefully some of those things can be shown soon, but in the meantime I'm thrilled to finally be a member of AIGA NY (couldn't decide between NY and Philly given my current location, but I chose my favorite city for now) and will actually be attending a seminar tomorrow to help further round out my knowledge of graphic design in the digital realm. Looking forward to it!
02.18.2009
I finally put up the James Jean postcard notebook that I helped design/direct while at Chronicle Books as well as a website design I did for a shear provider awhile back. You can find them in the Play section under "shear quality" and "xoxo." Enjoy!
02.17.2009
This past fall/winter I had the opportunity to work with Plus et Plus on "The Electric Company", a children's program that encourages literacy with a focus on male urban youth. The materials the Plus et Plus team and I have developed are already getting a lot of rave reviews, with mass reprints within a month of the launch! Check out some of the things I contributed to in the Work section under "electric co."
I've also made some improvements to the newsletter and created an index of past newsletters here. In addition to getting more in depth with the processes and concepts behind my current work, you may also get a glimpse of past work that is no longer posted on the website.
A big thank you to Josh, who not only helped me with the improvements to the newsletter, but also fixed the code for the broken newsletter sign-up form (below)! If you wanted to get newsletters/notifications on website updates and were confused why you never got that welcome email confirmation, it is now fixed so please please try again. SO sorry about that!

It's been quite busy, but I'd like to take a moment to thank those of you who have provided feedback on the onesie designs so far =).
Also, a quick hurrah: a postcard book I designed at Chronicle Books with one of my favorite illustrators, James Jean, got a rave review on USATODAY.com! See samples of his work and the cover of the book at Pop Candy Blog: Cool Book Alert!
07.30.2008
Two new items are up today: a few logo directions I did for LYRIC in the Work section under "LYRIC 20th" and my onesie designs for Kidlette in the Play section under "kidlette"!
07.28.2008
Sorry, it's been awhile! I'll soon put up a few things that I have been up to since the last update. In the meantime, my friend Annie, a Chronicle Books Children's Fellow I met last year finally has her site up and running, and it's very cute and fresh! Check back here soon for more updates and new work!
04.10.2008
It's only been a week since I last updated, but I added two more pieces to my Play section which I thought better represents where I'm currently at as a designer. They can be found under "AIGA" and "thanks." Enjoy!
04.02.2008
I have just completed the construction of my portfolio book after dedicating some time to create a custom binding and redesign the layouts. If you have any projects or know of any open positions, I am now available for hire and collaboration!
A lot of changes have been made since the last update including new icons (above) and samples of my work that will now be featured alongside the updates and change randomly with every refresh or visit to the update page.
There are also a few more pieces to check out in the Play section: "introversion," "joy," and "lovefool". Of the three, the pattern for "lovefool" was my favorite to make.
03.14.2008
Word on the street is that The Best Dance Moves in the World...Ever! is doing really well in advance sales! I did the cover for this buy-in for Chronicle Books, and if you haven't seen it already, it can be found in my Work section under "dance" on the left-hand menu.
02.13.2008
The rest of my major Chronicle Books projects are now up in the Work section! They include "playboy," a special rush project for Borders (don't worry, while it's very exciting, it's definitely a SFW image. You'll have to buy the actual set to see the other exciting stuff ; P) and "backroads," a travel deck for those interested in the local sweet spots of New England. I've also begun to tweak the look of this site. It will hopefully be done shortly, but any input is always welcome =). ENJOY!
11.20.2007
Return Design, where my foray into graphic design all started, interviewed me this past spring and it's now up on their site! There, you can see their work as well as the work of other past interns. If you have time, go check out Grant Hanna-a former coworker and classmate of mine. His stuff is lovely.
11.17.2007
Finally! I'm starting to put up some of the work that I've done at Chronicle Books. Click on the Work button above and check out "dance" (The Best Dance Moves in the World...Ever!) and "egypt" (The Egyptian Book of the Dead). Both will be available this coming spring 2008!
10.27.2007
A big thanks to Alice for the shoutout! Alice is a friend from RISD that graduated in 2006 and is now designing in London. Go check out her new design blog and stay posted here to see all the new projects I've been up to at Chronicle Books!
06.05.2007
Wow a lot has happened in a month! This past weekend I officially graduated from RISD's Graphic Design program. I also won a fellowship with Chronicle Books for the Publishing Design Group and will be there for six months starting July.
There's one addition to the Play section (wings) and the winners' submissions for the "d-WHOAH me" competition are now up. Just roll over the d-whoah logo in the upper left corner if you have not yet discovered it.
There will be lots more news coming soon (hint: the new Them section above) so keep checking back here, or write to updates@d-whoah.com with "Subscribe" in the subject header to be notified of future updates.
04.24.2007
This site has been completely revamped with new works added in both the Work and Play section!
